Project 1 – HTML
Project 1 was my first time coding a website from scratch in my Web Design and Publishing class, MC 4315. Using HTML, I created a five-page personal website highlighting my media work, travel experiences, baking, and class assignments. Through this project, I learned how to build navigation, organize content, add images, create links, and embed videos. It gave me a strong introduction to web development and helped me understand the foundation behind building a website.
Project 2 – CSS / Responsive
Project 2 allowed me to transform my original HTML website using CSS and focus more on the visual side of web design. I customized colors, fonts, layouts, and other design elements while keeping the site consistent across all five pages. I also learned how to use fluid layouts and media queries to make the website responsive across different screen sizes. This project helped me understand how HTML and CSS work together to create a more polished and personalized website.
Project 3 – Bootstrap / Multimedia
Project 3 allowed me to combine coding, multimedia, and storytelling by creating a five-page website about living in Austin in your 20s. Using Bootstrap for the first time, I explored the lifestyle, experiences, and things that make Austin unique for young adults through my own writing, photos, and video. I incorporated a photo slideshow, interactive data visualization, original video, and custom CSS to make the site more engaging and personal. This project helped me become more comfortable with responsive web design while showing me how coding and content creation can work together to tell a story.
Project 3 – Video Assignment
For my Project 3 video assignment, I created a documentary-style video connected to my topic of living in Austin in your 20s. I filmed and edited an interview that explored a young adult’s perspective on the Austin lifestyle, incorporating open-ended questions, b-roll, lower thirds, and a title screen. This assignment gave me hands-on experience with filming, interviewing, and video editing while teaching me how to use visuals and conversation to tell a more engaging story.
Final Project – WordPress
For my final project, I used WordPress to create a five-page website for my own Christmas-themed business concept. I developed the brand from scratch, including its logo, services, written content, visuals, and promotional video while creating a festive and cohesive look throughout the site. I also customized the website using WordPress tools and CSS to bring my vision to life. This project brought together the web design, branding, content creation, and multimedia skills I learned throughout the semester.
